Charleswood + St.James = West Winnipeg Minor Baseball

In November 2024, with the approval from Baseball Manitoba, Charleswood Minor Baseball has joined St.James Minor Baseball. Through this partnership, we have officially changed our organization's name to West Winnipeg Minor Baseball. We are excited to share our plans for 2025 and explain how this partnership will benefit both west Winnipeg and the broader baseball community.
Creating Competitive Balance
The merger will increase our total registration to 630 players, adding approximately 250 from Charleswood. This expansion helps balance the sizes of Winnipeg's baseball clubs, as West Winnipeg, Bonivital, Winnipeg South, and Red River Valley will now all have membership numbers within 100 players of each other. This redistribution creates more balanced competition among all Winnipeg teams.
Two Organizations Coming Together
It can’t be overstated that this is two organizations coming together. It is not a takeover of one. Both Charleswood Minor Baseball and St. James Minor Baseball have agreed on how to move forward based on our shared baseball philosophy. It’s also perfect that the geography works.
Team Name Update
As part of this expansion, our AA and AAA teams will now compete as the West Winnipeg A's.
The 2025 Season
The following indicates how the season of 2025 will unfold for each level.
A Teams
Each community club retains their A teams. The Charleswood A teams join the league we already have in place with North, making the league stronger.
AA Teams
All AA teams in our organization will play as West Winnipeg A’s at Optimist Park, one of the best baseball facilities in the province. These teams will be formed through our tryouts where we pick both AAA and AA teams. With the increased number of registrations in this move, the number of AA teams collectively should remain as in years past. As an example, last year St. James had 6 AA teams and Charleswood had 4. We will therefore strive to have 10 AA West Winnipeg A’s teams playing out of Optimist Park. These numbers will, of course, be subject to the amount of players we have trying out at each age group and level.
AAA Teams
No significant changes here as we will form one team per age group of 13U, 15U, 18U. Each season we will determine if there is enough talent at a certain age group to consider having two teams independent of the other ages.
